Opinion about a Nikkor lens

A photographer buddy of mine has the Nikon 14-24 2.8 ultrawide zoom. I guess he really likes it, says it is one of his most-used lenses. The darn thing costs $1,999, and it's heavy, but he swears by it, says once you get to know the characteristics of the lens you can practically leave it on the camera. He does landscapes mostly, but also uses it for regular shooting. It's incredibly sharp. I've checked it out, there is a slight curvature at the edges, but not as much as you would think. He likes it for candid shots too. If anybody on the forum has one, let me know what you think. Thanks.

While I don't use mine everyday, the 14-24 is one of my favorite lens. It is expensive, but well worth the cost for serious photography.

I own one, it is a very versatile lens and really sharp, a couple of friends who are sworn Canon users tried mine out then bought their own as well as Nikon to Canon Lens adapters and they swear by that lens.
I use mine for a lot of landscape, and architectural photography also for Boat(Ship) Photography-Well worth the money! Great compliment to my 24-70mm and 70-200mm

Thanks for the info. I think you've talked me into the purchase. I have the other two lenses, and they're great. Sharp, built like tanks and durable. I think the 14-24 will be a smart purchase for me. In my jobs, I photograph almost everything and everybody sooner or later. I hope everybody has a great weekend.

I have all three the 14-24, 24-70 and the 70-200 in addition to a 1.4x and 2x teleconverter. That gets me an incredible range and enables me to work in low light too (without the teleconverter of course.
All three lenses are razor sharp and focus incredibly fast. To me they're among the best lenses Nikon has ever produced. So if you want to add the wide one to your kit I think that's money well spent.
For me by the way, the standard lens is the 24-70. The other two are for times when I need a wider view or a longer one.

One of my favorite lenses and you can find them used in the $1100 range, if you look!

I own it as well, I got it fairly recently, and ,It hasn't left my Nikon D800, since, its the sharpest lens, in wide angle, i have ever seen, in 50 years of photography....I highly recommend it!!

That is the Wide part of the Holy Trinity, the other two being 24-70 and 70-200 f2.8. Canon has a similar trio with a L designation, all f2.8. All great lenses, once you've bought one, you'd want to buy the other 2 and will never let go, as they are as good as if not better than a lot of the primes.

Definitely on of Nikon's best.
For less than 1/3 the cost I bought the Tokina 16-28 2.8. Also a very good wide angle zoom.

You can use a fx lens on a dx body That way if you upgrade to a fx camera you are set with lenses
