A couple with my latest set up...

The rig - D7100 , Sigma 70mm macro , Kenko Teleplus Pro 300 2X TC , Sigma EM-140 DG flash.
The flash is too harsh and I don't have the computer to handle a good stacking program either. That said this is what I'm "stuck" with for the moment. I shoot stopped way down and am aware of the problems with diffraction but it seems to give me the best results with what I have to work with. All shots handheld.
The strengths of my rig are undoubtedly the D7100 and lenses set up. The Sigma 70mm is tack sharp. I see no degradation from using a 142$ 2X TC either! The beauty of the TC is it can double my working distance (a blessing with a short focal length) or double the magnification (or anything inbetween)

To me that is awesome. I have no money to invest either but do want to get where you already are.

Thank you! I'll say this the Sigma 70mm 2.8 costs 450$. The Kenko Teleplus Pro300 2x TC costs 140$ Together for 590$ they make a powerful and sharp 140mm macro set up for far less than most 100mm lenses. Im on a tight budget and fortunately found the Sigma first then tried the Kenko with it. Bob

I had seen this article before purchasing my Kenko. Disappointingly he uses a 90mm macro lens but doesn't try any macro shots with it! Ive found its far easier to use the Kenko for macro work than telephoto. Bob

Looks pretty good to me. Have you tried using more layers of diffusion material to the flash? Several layers of paper towels might work. Also different brands of paper towels offer different diffusion. If your flash has the snap on plastic diffuser, Try putting varying thicknesses of cotton balls inside the snap on diffuser. I use this method sometimes. I too am on a tight budget and look for stuff I already have to help improve a problem. Good luck and keep posting. You are well on your way to total success.

Thanks! The Lens/TC combo works very well IMO. The flash needs tweaking. Bob
