Table-Top Macro, Flat Light Set-Up

A couple of the new users were asking how i get flat lighting out of harsh LED video panels.
The LEDs have focusing lenses built in so the secret is to get distance between the panel and the diffuser.
After that its just a matter of wrapping the light around the subject.
In the second image, I lowered the ISO so you could see the concave diffusers. Nothing else is changed in the picture.

Build it horizontal, makes it smaller, cheaper and easy to store when not in use.

Useful info, super innovation. Sure would be helpful if you'd outline the setup, the camera and control parts. Is your mounted on a rail? What lens and why? TIA

Use a cheap manual rail for easy setup and or stacking.
Use large concave diffusers for general illumination but place closer to lights.
Leave plenty of room between subject and diffusers so you can sneak some key lighting in there to generate highlights where you want them,
Use HDMI and or tether so you can see whats going on magnified.
Swap your D3100 out for any used 24 mp body for better resolution.
Add freebie CombineZP stacker software to your toolbox.

And now with the mirrorless cameras doing in camera burst mode focus stacking our days are numbered.
