Had been using MP-E at f/8 but it seems to perform well at f/5.6 to f/6.3 for stacking.

yes I had been using at f/8 to f/13 and read somewhere to lower the f stop at higher magnification, I think I had googled best f stops for that lens. Easier to darken then to lighten.

Aperture (f/stops) are not high nor low; they are large (f/4) or small (f/16). What do you mean by "lower f/stop"?

as in lower numbers = more light, and I don't think about this stuff much anymore I just do it, more muscle memory then thought process.
been shooting manual since I was in junior high/high school newspaper/annual. don't miss the darkroom chemicals at all, in fact my avatar pic is me as a sophomore in high school in Singapore

Actually, f/16 is a SMALLER number than f/4, as these are fractions. We need to be concise and unified in our descriptions, so we do not confuse novice macro-photographers. You and I know what we are doing through long experience, and accurate descriptions of settings & technique are needed to build correct knowledge for our "Padawan learners".

yes sir I understand and am grateful for your tireless tutelage and for your adherence to the guidelines, and my apologies to those I may have confused by my imprecise verbiage
