30 frames done twice and then HDR on results of two stacks. The stacks were done with Nikon objective on 400mm, so it is 20:1 magnification = 20x life-size. I was surprised that my flash provided enough light such that I could use ISO 100.

must be one of them little ants.
try just bringing up the mid-tones on a single stack, might be able to avoid the HDR

was just experimenting with the technique to see if it added anything. I suspect it robbed from clarity more than it added. Yeah, ant is about 3/16 inch or so.

Not too shabby! This magnification qualifies as micro-photography (> 10:1 mag).

thank you guys.. I need to attempt something of a known size this evening so that we can verify that it is 20X or so. I am thinking a part of a coin perhaps - am open to suggestions.

Do you have a microscope slide with a scale on it? $5.00 on ebay if you can wait a week.

Thank you for good advise. I will do this, might be useful also when I try some of this hooking up an extender or two to the 400mm. Tonight will try a ruler and see how many lines show up.

thank you muddy, tin, Bob,

Until I get my micrometer, the old fashioned carpenter's tape shows a little more than 1/16 of an inch side to side.
