That is so neat and a great photograph including lighting and composition. Very well done.
I just recently found Monarch butterfly eggs on my milkweed plants. I knew Monarchs had been flitting about and landing on the leaves but never saw an egg. Apparently I just didn't know what to look for. This year I bought two new small plants without many leaves or branches yet. After seeing butterflies land on the plants I went to check and sure enough there were some eggs there, tiny little things but eggs none the less. Just yesterday afternoon I saw the very first hatchling (for lack of a better term) or first instar from eggs on the new plants. Very exciting for me, my wife and our 7 year old granddaughter.
Sorry, didn't mean to ramble.

If you knew me you would not say that. EVER!!! Ask my family. My parents should have named me, Nash. Older people will get the connection.
I just checked the new plants and one of them had 5 brand new caterpillars. I will post photos in a couple of days.
I have been trying to get a series of photographs showing the life of a Monarch and finally have all of the photos I need from a new egg up through coming out of the chrysalis. I have gone from a who-cares-about-butterflies person to having an interest in butterflies, spiders, lady bugs, etc. Only from a photographic point of view mind you but still an interest. I doubt I will ever get into the names of spiders other than arachnids etc. but I do like the photography of the little beasties. They are nice to see.
Nice capture! Enlarges nicely.
