Because the subject is too far away for the lens you are using to see the detail you are expecting. Also, using a high ISO such as 1000 will tend to give you some noise which tends to soften an image as well.

There's also the matter of focus point. Going by the image as shown, the chances of the focus point being on the bird are slim. The close rocks or the far away trees are the most likely candidates, depending on what focus mode was being used.

Generally blur is from camera movement with a slightly longer exposure. This lighting appears to have required a tripod but if you didn't use one then I'd suspect hand movement.

If you did use a tripod then perhaps your focus point was in the wrong location in the frame.

when I used the Ctrl key and + key to zoom in on your photo .I didn't see any part of the photo that was in focus in my opinion . I would say because of the distance and maybe the lens was on manual focus or the lens wasn't focused correctly with auto focus . That could be it was searching when you took photo or you may have forgot to hold your shutter release half way down to auto focus because you were in a hurry to capture the bird . These are just a few ideas .Tommy

I used the ctrl key and + key to zoom, how do I change it back to original?

Your shutter speed is fast enough, but for a sharp bird, you need to focus on that animal as well and it looks to me you missed that by quite a bit. Also, when shooting BIF, you should turn off your IS (it can and will slow down the AF although ever so lightly, but it also can create blur)! Can I ask you a question too, please. If you wanted to shoot that bird, why did you choose a middle focal length and not zoom all the way out to get a larger image (trying to isolate) of the bird?

For some reason my computer won't allow me to upload that photo again. Thanks for all the help. I think I forgot to hold my shutter release half way down as one poster said, as I was in a hurry, which is also why I didn't have my focal length at 200.

If the file is too large (> 15MB), it won't upload. I definitely see blur or a focus issue in even the thumbnail. I can't tell which.

There are not enough pixels in the thumbnail for ctrl + to show the problem.
