Venus 60mm 2:1 macro lens - field test images

I managed to take the Venus 60mm 2X macro lens out for a test a couple of nights ago. Probably not a great idea to use a fully manual lens with no auto stop-down for the first time in the dark!!!

Since the lens has to be stopped down to F11 (my aperture setting) when focusing, the viewfinder is very very dark. I use a Fenix E11 flashlight/torchlight for focusing light (shoot through diffuser). But a lot of the times, I had to use my bigger bug hunting flashlight/torchlight to help me focus better.

Most were taken at F11, 1/200, ISO200 with a 70D, and lit with a single 270EX and concave diffuser. Mostly less than 1:1 unless otherwise stated.
Full Res images available on my Flickr page. Click on the image too see it on Flickr. Link to full res image in the comment section.

OOF...the first few field test images I took out there in the dark. My first time using a fully manual macro lens with no auto stopdown.

I also did a quick comparison of the Venus 60mm vs Tamron 60 & MP-E65 at 1:1. Full res images included there.

I sure wish we could download your images for examination like all others here.

While these look really promising, most of use like to pixel peep  Besides, I think you could make any lens look good Kurt  :-)

I went there and looked for "full res" but didn't see what you describe. What am I missing?:|

When I click on one of Kurt's photos, I am taken to the same photo in his Flickr page. Now my cursor shows as a "+" inside of a magnifying glass icon, which allows me to enlarge.

For whatever reason, I can't get my cursor to do that. However, if I click on the image, I get a "view all sizes" option which works pretty well indeed. I wish I had known about this sooner :| The performance of this lens seems to warrant consideration.

Kurt, to achieve 1:1 magnification with this 60-mm lens, what is the Working Distance (lens front element to subject)?

Thanks for these Kurt. It is good to see your results.
Did Venus send you the lens for evaluation? Funny you should bring this up, as last night, a macro buddy sent me a link to Thomas Shahan's review. In case you're interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSpE_JE7Uyo

*EDIT* oops I see you commented on Thomas' video...

Guys, say if you click on the snake pic, you will land on this page. Look for links to full res images in the comment section on that page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/orionmystery/16230068919
Douglass - at 1:1 mag, the filter is 60mm (2.36-in) from subject; at 2:1 mag, about 50mm (2-inch).
William - yes! I asked.

Can you post a photo of your macro photography 'rig?' Your camera, this lens, flash & diffuser?
GREAT shots, too! Thanks
