I am not a people photographer - shoot mostly macro, but my camera club subject for next month is portrait photography. Any suggestions on these 3 pics - which two should I enter? Thanks for any comments and suggestions.

Well you sure make it hard to choose.
#1 is a fantastic head shot, but I love the composition
of #2 very much. I wonder if you had zoomed back
just a little bit if you would have caught her whole reflection in the water.
#3 is great also, but the lighting isn't as good as #1.
Very beautiful girls that's for sure.
I agree with CajonPhotog about the green.
I would remove a little bit of that in photoshop.
By the way, I love your profile photo too.
That's a great macro shot. Fungus never looked
so good.

I like 1 and three the best, the second one looks to have a green cast to it, and just doesn't seem to have the "happy" feeling to it like the other 2. #1 looks to me to be right on, with #2 needing a boost in exposure. Nice work on them all.

Thanks so much for the comments. I will re-work 2 with the green cast. I do have a photo of 2 with the whole reflection but that placed the subject too far away for a portrait theme.
Thanks for the macro comment.

Okay, thanks so much for looking and commenting. I think I was pushing it with #2 for a portrait.

I don't think you were pushing it at all. I prefer #2 out of the 3 submitted. Both of the others are cute shots, but need more light on the faces to restrict the pupils, increase the visible color in the eyes, and just bring more emphasis to the area. If the first one at 1/15sec was handheld, it turned out great, but, more light would also have let you increase your shutter and perhaps get a sharper image.

The expression in #1 is great. I feel the childs hand should come forward a little. The steps in the background are slightly distracting.#2 has a good look and with color correction will be much better. With #3 a reflector camera left would have thrown needed light on childs face. Again the look is priceless. Keep shooting you're doing very well.
Number 3 with a little bit of PP work is a stunning shot. The model looks to be fully engaged with you rather than just posing. Number 2 is nice but Im wary of shots that make kids look almost sultry and the judge may be as well. Do a little bit of work on 3 and walk away with the medal!!
Like them all, but #3 is the winner to me!
Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions. I will re-work the photos as you've recommended and get them in.

For not being a people photographer, you got three very interesting images. With a bit of post processing, you can take them to near greatness. But work on #1 and #3 first, maybe eliminating the distraction of the horizontal steps in #1, and brightening the face in #3. I even like the tight crop on them both, feels very friendly and intimate.
Just a warning, though, shooting people is very addictive, especially when you get terrific results like these - so shooting bugs 'n slugs 'n little things just won't be the same when you can't the smiles on their little faces.
#1 is the best overall, however I would tweak the WB a bit. It's a little too warm IMHO.
