I've noticed a blue outline on some of my bird pics when set against a blue sky (left side of woodpecker). Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't. What causes this, and what, if anything, can be done to prevent it. Shot with SX50, f/7.1, 1/500sec., and ISO 160. As always, thank you for your help. Donnie
I note the light is coming from over the right shoulder and it is only around the shadow (left) edges that the deeper blue line occurs (both the bird and the wood). Moreover the 'line' is uniform in width. So it must be happening from some property of light. The 'line' being enriched in blue can also be said to be depleted of red. The only property of light that I can think of that is wavelength dependent is refraction. There are others but my brain is blanking at the moment. The long wavelengths have higher indexes of refraction, so the 'line' is red impoverished because of being refracted away. Am I full of BS on this?
