Trying to remove blade of grass with CS5

I took my pup Coco and Nikon D90 on a hike on Lake Tyler. I love this shot of her, but the blade of grass over her face needs removal. Content Aware in CS5 works beautifully to remove the blade over the water, but not the eye. Any cloning or other tips? I'm still new at CS5.

Take a look at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-21811-1.html where an unwanted image was removed by taking advantage of symmetry in the photo. The dog is turned on an angle, but the dog's face still has symmetry. Copy the eye you have, paste (which will put the copy in a new layer), and go to Edit -> Transform. You can flip the eye, rotate it and reduce it appropriately and drop it in where it belongs. It may take some work, but it should do the job. Same thing applies to the nose.

I played with your photo for a few minutes and came up with this. I'm sure others can do this fix much better than I. Doug

"A few minutes"? I'm truly humbled! I played with CS5 until 1:15 a.m., but mine still looks ummm, crummy. So much to learn. Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm glad you liked my edit. I use Photoshop Elements 9 which has a great tool called "Content Aware". You select a brush and paint over whatever you want to remove. I also used a little bit of "Clone Stamp" to fill in what Content aware didn't fix.. I often check out YouTube for videos when I want to learn new tricks on Elements. Doug

I am a total non-geek, I don't know how to use Photoshop and for editing photos I use a programme that came with my Canon printer: Arcsoft Photo Editing Software. I am so non-geek that I don't even know how to use the layers function. The resolution in your photo wasn't great but but here's my take on the task which just goes to prove that even idiots can sometime improve things. Not as good at the Photoshop edit but......:

PS: It took me about 5 minutes

When I studied your photo of the dog - my initial impression was that one of the blades of grass was running up through his nose!! Yuck - I thought if I could remove that one blade of grass - all the way up - then the photo would be improved.

I have CS5 but don't use it - too hard for my lazy brain. I use Paint Shop Photo Pro X3 by Corel. In the Express Lab mode I clicked on the Clone Brush and zoomed in at the base of that one blade of grass.

Working from where it crossed another blade of grass - moving upward I tried to eliminate the blade of grass by overwriting the blade. The grass is is going every which way and all confusing so it was easy to "blot out" that one blade of grass. As I got closer to his mouth I covered the blade with water.

The blade went up right through his nose and so I zoomed into the pixel level and "traded" the green grass pixels for black one's on his nose. Above his head I traded water for the blade of grass and then got another cup of coffee.

It's taken me much more time to write this up then it did to edit the photo. I think it's better - what do you think?

p.s. This is my first post. It was a fun exercise - thanks.

Thanks for your inspirational posts! As I don't have any software other than the cerebral Photoshop, I'm still looking for someone who can guide me through this process on CS5. Any takers?

Just a suggestion. If you'd like to see what people can do with your picture click the "(store original)" box when you upload. Then they will be able to work with the full resolution original.

MtnMan, I read this sentence in the instructions:
Please only enable this option if you need to attach images that require high resolution versions to be kept, such as panoramas. Maybe the instructions should be reworded.

I have cs5. I only used clone stamp after making background copy. Press alt key to target portion to use. I really needed more pixals to work with in order to blow up image to do a good job.

Yes, I suspect the site owner is trying to limit the storage space used. I wish they would reword it.

But if you don't check it the pic uploaded is a very course thumbnail only.

Yay!! I did it in CS5. I had a lot to learn about layers, but here it is. The only thing I could figure out how to do was to add that little bit of sparkle to her right eye.
