The lens was made by Komine for Vivitar. It's not a Series One lens though, which was Vivitar's OEM equivalent line, but just a standard macro lens... The shot was taken in morning light, at 1:1, no ring light but I did use the "onboard" camera flash for some fill light. (note you can see some movement of the flies "hairs" ).
Scott, I like your shot of this fly, especially because you used an old Vivitar lens. I'm excited about the prospect of using my compliment of old lenses from my Vivitar 220 SL that I bought back in 1975. I broke the out of my closet to use on my Canon T5. I have a 200, 85-205, 55, 50, 28 wide angle, 2x & 3x converters. Do you think it would be worth it to get the adapter with focus confirm? I also checked out your flickr albums. Nice pics. Which ones were shot with old glass? I'd like to see what I should aspire to. Thanks so much.
