Very intersting! Speaking of the Czech Republic, do you have any "Vltavin" in your collection?

Hi Alaskan you showed me a new one, I never knew it by the name Vltavin I call it Moldavite, it's in the Tecktite family, when a meteorite hits the earth and melts the rock into glass you get this material, here is some Vltavin ( Moldavite ) and some faceted gems of Moldavite and a Tecktite, also 25,000 years ago a meteorite smashed into the Saharah desert melting the sand into what they call desert glass, the ancient Egyptions made jewelery out of it. I also added a piece of the Campo del Cielo meteorite that hit Argentina in 1576 it's made up of nickel and iron

It's amazing Howie. You could post 100,000 shots of minerals and none of them would be boring!

Howie, Vltavin is a Czech word, I did not know the English version, sorry. The 2nd batch of photos is even better than the 1st one, love them. You got some really interesting stuff..The most interesting rocks I ever saw in person was inside the Grand Canyon of Stikine,B.C.,Canada.Not too many people see this 70 miles long canyon and only very few get inside. I was there quite a few times in a jetboat, unfortunately it is next to impossible to land anywhere inside the canyon. Several times we managed to do so and geologists on board just went nuts and did not want to get back to the boat. The canyon is of volcanic origin, basalt (which we call "french fries") etc. Lots of rocks with rainbow like surface reminding me japanese raku ceramics. To get a better idea what is the canyon like you may be interested to read my post "Poll: have you ever heard of Grand Canyon of Stikine?"

Hi Alaskan, after I found out what Vltavin was I went through my inventory and found these pieces, I would love to see that place in the canyon you would have to drag me back to the boat, I'll have to read your post! Basalt can be pretty at times

I will post a few threads on the canyon in the future, I have no doubts you would love it there. So far the only rocks I collected are those perfect in symetrical shape like an egg etc. Ivan.

howie...i cant help but notice your in Jersey..have you been to the morris musuem in north jersey. They have an interesting collection.
I have a wierd little rock from australia that I was told was a DINASOUR EGG. I know it isnt. It is round and creamy colored on the outside, and split in half with a glassy flat surface...if you dont mind...I could take a photo of it and maybe you could identify it for me.
btw...when ever I see your name I cant wait to see what you will be showing.
