Heyrob, my friend. I am a patriotic American and a proud US Navy veteran.. I'll bet we agree on more than you think. :).
Good luck on that lottery ticket. If you win how about lunch ?

I got side tracked so no lottery ticket, but I have a feeling you're probably right, but only about maybe agreeing on some other things too - not about anything we've argued about in the past though! ;)

Have a great weekend Conch.

One of you guys who might be looking for a project to take on? How about researching and finding some email addresses for some of those professional sports teams or maybe the commissioners office. Maybe we could start an email campaign that would make a difference. Personally I don't have the time to find the email addresses but I'd be happy to personalize a message and send it if I had the address. Well I'm off to work I'll check when I get home this evening to see if anyone takes on the challenge and God Bless the USA!

NASCAR fans have been doing that for years, to no avail. It has to do with who/what is promoting the race, game, etc. They get to pick the singer of the song and most times it is some local who is related to some big muhoff in the organization. got to get the daughter/granddaughter/son/niece, in front of the public so to promote a singing contract. The fact that she/he can hardly carry a tune is beside the point. And of course, the singer has to put his/her stamp on the song because it's all about them, not the song.

that sounds all well and good, but, why the hell couldn't they come up with an anthem that you didn't have to have an operatic voice to sing? i couldn't hit those high notes on my best day.

Amen, now if they would only listen.......nothing pisses me off more than when the national anthem is messed with!!!! It should be an honor to have a voice good enough to sing it. I for one do not have such a voice.....

in the land of the free and the home of the brave, it should have been written so that EVERY voice would be able to sing it.

EVERY American voice CAN sing our national anthem. You're not performing to show your singing skills. You sing the anthem to honor this nation and all thos who scrificed for our freedom.

Good advice for the NFL

With the start of the NFL season, perhaps all team owners should be sent the following message.....

From a Marine Corps Colonel in Afghanistan :

"So with all the kindness I can muster, I give this one piece of advice to the next pop star who is asked to sing the national anthem at a sporting event...

Save the vocal gymnastics and the physical gyrations for your concerts.
Just sing this song the way you were taught to sing it in kindergarten - straight up, no styling.

Sing it with the constant awareness that there are soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines watching you from bases and outposts all over the world. Don't make them cringe with your self-centered ego gratification.

Sing it as if you are standing before a row of 86-year-old WWII vets wearing their Purple Hearts, Silver Stars and flag pins on their cardigans and you want them to be proud of you for honoring them and the country they love - not because you want them to think you are a superstar musician. They could see that from your costume, makeup and your entourage.

Sing 'The Star Spangled Banner' with the courtesy and humility that tells the audience that it is about America , not you.
