I'm now trying to decide how to best print some of my photos and am considering this printer. After rebate it is only $99.00 here:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/893738-REG/Canon_6228b002_Pixma_Pro_100_Photo_Inkjet.html

But I'm not sure what the total cost per page would be compared to using online printing companies like costco.

I've read the replacement ink cartridges can be expensive and I'm not sure what the quality comparison is?

I'd like to here your experience with this printer compares to online services if you have any?

A multifaceted question that can be hard to answer.
Printing at CostCo will be cheaper without question (as long as it is within a reasonable driving distance).

The Canon Pixma Pro 100 is not a bad printer, but it is a basic entry printer whose color output can vary with different papers. If not used regularly, the ink cartridges can plug up and will need to be replaced.

I own several printers and I use several printing services (including CostCo from time to time). There is no perfect solution, it all depends on frequency of use, quantity printed, size of print, schedule, and print quality.

And for me at least, those four criteria vary at lot.

Well my cartridges are $4.50 each for compatibles and you won't tell the difference in quality

Thanks, so if used regularly, not commercially (personal use), seldom print large prints (only so much wall space, sometimes filing) and wanting the best print quality to hang on wall. Would you recommend this or using online service?

I appreciate your opinion!

Based on your projected usage above,
and that this printer has great reviews, and.
it does a very good job for most folks.

With Canon's/B&H's $300 rebate, $99 is a bargain.
And the online services will always be there for you to use as needed.
I'd go for it now before they are all gone!!

I got one for $400 with a $200 rebate. The $300 rebate is when you buy a 50-pack of 13x19 paper. Oh, I did buy the paper since it was effectively free.

How do you like it and cost of ink compared to using a commercial print service?

All I know is I wish I could buy a pro 100 for $99, here in NZ the cheapest price I've seen is NZ$780 (approx US$650). As far as cost per print is concerned you must decide whether or not you want complete control of your images. The print quality from this printer is extremely good.

Go to the Red River Paper web site for a look at the true costs of printing. They have info for all the popular printers.

I like Canon printers, currently use anMG8220, I've had it for a year. I go to 4inkjets.com and save a buddle. I can get my cl226 series ink tanks for $5.00 if I buy 3, %5.99 if you only buy 1 or 2. Their service is quick and their tech service is fantastic and every thing is under warranty. They even took my old ink back for credit when my old MG990 finally crapped out after 4 years of hard use.check them out.
