I Have a Nikon d3200 I Want to use off camera. Nikon sb700 flash 10 or so feet away I Do not want to buy a cord they're too short . Hard for me to understand camera and flash instructions together for this.
When I bought the flash at a very good camera store in Atlanta
they used to be very helpful. All I was told that with d3200 I need to put in manual mode and flash in -----. I know now the better Nikon has command setting.
I DO not want the pop up flash to flash triggering off the sb700.
I hope someone can figure out what I"M trying to say.
My last flash was black gun powder and you take off and put on the lens cap to time exposure.
Thank you Framerman

There are a few ways to do this.
There are inexpensive radio transmitter/receivers which will work only on manual, more expensive units that retain the automatic TTL exposure control and Nikon's SU-800 that uses infrared to control the SB 700 also using TTL.

The pop-up flash on your camera can not control the SB700.
The least expensive current model with that capability is the D-7100.

Manual flash control is the most consistent and least expensive way to do this as using TTL can sometimes be tricky. Having said that, I do use Nikon's SU-800 commander unit a lot, even outside in sunlight and it works great.

This article reviews a lot of these options.

Check out inexpensive manual units like the YongNuo RF-603 but find out the sync speed. Some can't sync as fast as your camera is capable.

For better units, some allowing TTL, Pocket Wizard is probably the best rated brand but it comes at a price.
You might check out Pixel King and Phottix as well.
