Sarge69, I'll bet you were dropped on your head sometime when you were a baby. That is the only plausible excuse I can think of regarding some of your opinions.

I did fall one time and hit my head. That could be it. Otherwise it is due to being exposed to 3rd world countries during a 30 year military career. Maybe it stems from seeing folks eat food with one hand because they wipe their ass with the other. Maybe its because I saw people starving and procreating at the same time. Maybe it's because I've seen countries cleaning the gene pool with machetes just because of race, culture, beliefs without a shred of remorse and now we want to spend billions on them? I'm sorry I'm a racist then but won't change. How many years have they had to advance into the current century yet they still can't for some reason. How about we feed them or teach them to grow crops and stop having children before we hit them with electricity?

You bleeding hearts really give me a laugh.

And, as stated, you don't like a chat subject, stay out of the chat with your iron clad goody two shoe views. Get into the real world without the kaleidoscope of pretty colors all warm and fuzzy and see things as they are. Children naked with more flies on them than the cows or goats. There is a lot more we can do for them, rather than our own country than giving them electricity.

Just think of the logistic questions that have to be solved.

1. Power plants to generate the power. The country probably has no-one to operate the plants. Do you see many large rivers to build power plants on ?

2. Power lines installed. The locals will steal the wires to hold their huts together continuously. Think of the lives lost in doing this.

3. Logistics of installing plugs in all the grass huts.

4. Logistics of where and how to stick directions on how to plug in appliances such as microwave ovens, blenders, toasters, hair dryers, coffee makers etc etc etc.

5. Large computer infrastructure on how to convert payments of goats, cattle etc for services.

6. Are you F##&#G KIDDING ME ?

This is a wildly rasicist and uninformed post. No offense to the sarge, but this post shows little knowledge of Africa.

If we are going to give money to other governments, this project is better than most.

This is really a business strategy (not really the presidents strategy), Africa is the next biggest developing commerce country on earth, but before selling to an under developed country they must be economically viable their for you have to bring them into an industrial century in order to make it profitable to have them as consumers.

I remember the same argument being used to "improve" the Middle East. It didn't seem to work out as planned, has it?

No, you are right, but we are driven by corporations and while they have saturated the domestic market they concentrate on new markets. Like I told Srg, it is all about money.

You libs always seem to ignore one simple fact when speaking about Reagan: He was a life long Democrat. According to his biography he only became a Republican because he wanted Nancy and her family would not accept a Democrat into the fold. His programs and beliefs were all based on a long history of Democratic ideology. Of course, the Democratic Party that spawned JFK and Reagan actually worked for the good of the common man, unlike todays bunch.

It is more than ironic that the Conservatives want credit for his good programs and the Dems disparage everything he did.

Actually this "lib" has always been aware of this, back from the days in which I was hoping he would run for president and win. Reagan was a union man and socially minded but like many Democrats at that time he was an ardent anti-communist (and for good reason).

Thing is, I've always been a Republican and a conservative. But the Republican party has lost track of its roots and now the mainstream looks more like the old John Bircher extreme wing. Obama is no more a lefty or a socialist than Reagan, Nixon or either of the two Bushes were. I don't even think GWB could win a primary today.

After his second term, our POTUS wants to be head of the Muslim Brotherhood and head of the U.N. while his wife is POTUS. This is a possibilty because too many U.S. citizens do not know or care who owns the U.S. Constitution or know how to recognize or do good politics. Many people believe the right thing to do is to avoid politics and not vote. I blame this on the unconstitutional involvment of the federal government in the education of children which represents a conflict of interest for the federal government.
