Just found this from last year or before photos when I was not interested on knowing about birds, shot with canon SX30. Don't know the name and I haven't seen it come by again.

You found a snipe you lucky soul.
Those are so secretive and near impossible to find.

Wow!So good to know. I did not know how to look for it, not knowing the name. Has not come back, that is my patio and was very difficult to detect. Thank you!

You're welcome. And to have it in your back yard is super special. They usually prefer wooded areas near water. I have been studying birds for several years and know most of the New England birds and many from the rest of the country.

Sorry Big Bear, I guess you are right! I grew up with my dad taking gullible friends or family members on "snipe hunts" ,in the woods after dark ...and leaving them there..holding the bag. Thought you were making it up.

Good shots! I saw a snipe fairly close just last week. With car stopped in middle of road (low traffic), I snapped a photo of it sitting on a fence post. Where are you located?

I am fairly new to Florida, i had never seen so many types of birds and fauna right here in my patio. My patio has a lake front view and makes sense; once I went to the link to the Cornell ornithology site and read about him. (Thanks for the link GeneM!) . Woohooo! Beginners luck!
