I would like to get a tablet I can bring photos up on, then draw on them. I saw the 19" ones....I think they're too big. Thinking about an approximately 10" one. I've never had one before. Please give me your opinions on what to get.

Have you ever used a tablet? If you are used to a mouse, the tablet is really hard for me to get used to. Afraid I hadn't the patience to switch over. Suggest you try one for a short spell before investing...if possible.

I use a Wacom tablet a lot. I do illustrating as well as photography. If you give yourself a good two week trial with the tablet, you will certainly know if it is right for you. If you are searching for the type of tablet that is also a draw-on monitor, then the Wacom Cintique is what you are looking for. Hardly anyone has them in there shop so you can see one in action though. Wacom just brought down the price for the 12" one - cost approx.$700.00. They use to be over $1,200.

No. I've never used one before but drawing with the mouse is so not accurate. I'm used to drawing with a brush or pen in my hand. I also don't know anyplace that would let me try before buying. Do you?

The problem is that there are not many of the units sold, so only the high-end art stores and photography places would have one. There are only two places in San Francisco that have them set up, but you are on the East Coast. You may want to contact Wacom and find out. You shouldn't have any problem getting use to a tablet if you do artwork already.

Is there a reason you don't just get a Wacom 4 or 5 tablet and use your own monitor? They are much more affordable. I have purchased tablets for both my son and daughter an they use theirs with a laptop. One of them in 1st year college and is majoring in media graphics, the other is in high school. They are both proficient with them.

I find it much more accurate than trying to do some things with a mouse.

I know you are asking about a graphic input tablet, but you should consider a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. The pen technology is licensed from Wacom. See this:

Shortly after writing the above post I discovered an app that turns the Note tablet into a true graphics tablet, I.e. using the stylus and tablet for PC mouse control (wirelessly too!). It's called Touchpad and is available in the Google Play store.

The type of tablet you would need for drawing and photo editing, has over 2,000 levels of sensitivity. The regular touch pad for telephones and tablets of that nature are not the same.

However, the Galaxy Note phones and tablets do not have regular touch screens. While they may not have "2,000 levels of sensitivity" Samsung developed the Note screens under a license from Wacom and they are definitely pressure sensitive. The PhotoShop Touch app that ships with the Note 10.1 tablet allows you to adjust the pressure sensitivity of the stylus.

Regarding using the tablet as input to a PC - I don't have any programs loaded on my PC to determine whether the Touchpad android app is sending pressure data. I also don't know how the Windows 7 "Tablet PC input Service" (which I just discovered) interacts with the Note tablet input. I suspect though, that since the Note's control of the PC mouse requires touchpad server to be running on the PC that it does not interact with the Windows Tablet service.

I bought one from Monoprice, link follows,http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10841
My son is a budding artist and absolutely loves it. It is a lot less expensive than a Wacom, he has one of those too and likes the Monoprice one better. This one does not allow you to draw directly on the image on the tablet screen, rather you use the stylus on the tablet surface and see the image and results on the monitor.

It does take a while to get the hang of it but well worth the learning curve.

I am a Digital Artist and teach Corel Painter. I have the Intus 4 tablet and could not live without it. It takes practice to get used to but worth it. I also have the artist pen which makes a big difference for art work

I have used the mid size Wacom for years and will never go back to a mouse. It's so much better, not just for editing pictures, but for everything.
Just my thoughts.
