The more I read , the more it looks like the 30mp came from actual leaked specs, which were quickly taken down.
If that’s true, then it fits right in with other high speed Sports cameras.
And, if it were to come out today would probably be the leader in most categories of super fast sports cameras.
Canon flagship cameras are always very good, but so are everyone else’s.
The FPS race has become sort of silly ( I understand the need). We have surpassed video slo-mo . Is there really a need for still cameras to have More than 120 FPS?, well if there is the new Canon is the ticket - it can do 240 compressed???
But there is a cost to this speed. You have to limit other things like Resolution or bit depth.
…. And Canon already has the R3
The R1 will be super rugged and reportedly have better DR than any of their other cameras. 30 MP with great DR will clearly be a fine camera. And my guess is, it will be a big hit with sports folks.
If the leaked specs turn out to be true, they should hurry up before someone else one ups them before the end of the year .
If that were to happen it would be a disaster for them.
I’m a Canon user and fan of their products . I hope that doesn’t happen, but what do you think the conversations are at Nikon & Sony today ?

Here is a shot I made with my ole Sigma 25-105mm f4 in EF-mount with my Sony A7RII and MC-11 lens adapter, years ago in Edinburgh ,Scotland, as a wedding couple was serenaded by a bagpiper.

And that same combo, on same trip, a shot of Tobermory, the capital of the Isle of Mull , Scottish Hebrides Islands, of a double rainbow at low tide.

I sold the Sigma EF-mount 24-105mm f4 when I got the Sony 24-105mm f4 G OSS in E-mount.

I have the Sigma Art 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN for Sony E-mount and love it. This Sigma was released in December 2019. I got mine in January 2020. It is Sigma's best selling lens.

The Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 is also excellent, and was released in April 2018, before the Sigma, and gained immediate popularity among hobbyists and pros alike around the world for its image quality, versatility and affordable price.

The version II of that Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 lens is improved, and was released in Oct. 2021 but was delayed a bit due to covid. . And a Nikon Z-mount version was released in 2024.

The Sigma is only surpassed by zooms in this range in image quality (by a bit) by the newer Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GM II, released in April 2022.

For me the Sigma is 90% of the GM II image quality at half the price, so even though I have other GM lenses, I am keeping the superb Sigma.

A new Sigma Art 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN version two is going to be announced in May, to rival the Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GM II. It promises to be even better than the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 version one.
