I had one of those from a company I worked for and I don't know why you want that instead of just make a regular phone call?

Apparently, it's good for a group, and it doesn't count against your minutes.

Now the minutes are free for most plan.
They are good for companies that need to talk to their employees Like Now & don't want to waste time dialing & waiting for someone to pick up the phone.

Walkie Talkies/Radios are faster than phones and dialing, you can have a "party line" with no trouble, just remember to not "step on" other people, and the whole group can hear each message at the same time instead of a bunch of phone calls. Just look at the huge popularity of CB radio with truckers and others for so many years.
At the Railway Museum, we use radios with multiple channels for different departments, a common channel for general use, and all those who need them get a list of cell phone numbers for "private" or restricted communication. When I got too gimpy to be walking and standing all day I became the announcer and base station radio operator. On really busy event days they assign a second person to the office to split the two duties. The announcer/radio operator also keeps the duty assignment list and sees that people get where they are assigned during the day.

Exactly, much faster than dialing.
One of the state agencies in Texas used something like that some years ago. They could call someone if they just wanted to talk to that person or use the radio part to reach multiple people at the same time. Don’t remember the name; net…..?
