I got a message today that version 7 of the NIK collection has been released. I've been using NIK for a long time, and currently am using version 6.10. The message was a little vague about what's new - faster, improved U-point technology, new features in ColorEfex. Upgrading would cost me $89. Has anyone tried V7? Is it worth the upgrade? Is there anything remarkable in the new stuff? There's a free trial, but I'm concerned it could overwrite the old version.

I’m still using 5, because when I try to update it won’t install. I’m not alone on this as many others have faced the same issue. No suggested solution has worked. Even if it would install I wouldn’t pay $90 for the upgrade. Not worth it.

Don't think I'll upgrade from 6 as I'm still happy as a clam But if you scroll half way down this page you'll see info about changes. Then click the "learn more" link for each: https://nikcollection.dxo.com

There are also a couple of video reviews on YouTube. Here's one:

I too am on version 6. something. The new version will be "better" than this one. The question is "how much better?" I usually wait through about 3 updates of any software before I do (update). Ask yourself what you can't do with what you have. Then before you update, find out if the new version will allow you to do what you currently can't. Then decide.

their prices are way out of line.. gave up on them. There are videos out about the’improvements’ but to be honest their point selection has been passed by with the AI masking in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop.

Hi, I work as Product Liaison for DxO with Parallel Instal you can have version 7 and version 6 on your computer. so giving the trial version a go will not overwrite your older version. In fact I would recommend keeping the older version around just to keep Perspective Control available as we removed this as we could not get the speed improvements we wanted keeping it in the suite of plugins

My last update on The NIK collection was in 2019 shortly after I bought this iMac if I remember correctly it cost me $50, since all my previous versions were free I think it was a great deal. As each new version came out I checked and found nothing I wanted or needed even if they were free.

if you have version 5 then you can get the upgrade price on the NIK Collection 7, as DxO upgrade prices are for the previous two versions. There are quite a few changes that add up especially if you have version5 of the NIK Collection. My fav right now is the Quick Export feature as it enables you to make different versions of the image you are working on very fast.

Thanks for the tip about keeping both versions. I use windows. If I download NIK Collection 7, how do I make sure it does not overwrite my current version NIK 6.X?

I do have NIK 6.x saved in my Downloads folder.

DxO now has NIK Collection supporting Parallel installations so both version 6 does not get overwritten when you instal version 7 and both will still be installed on your computer.

That is fine as well, I like version 6, just remember that if you want to take advantage of the upgrade price you should buy version 8 when it comes out sometime next year.

boy that is new behavior as every time I uploaded a trial before your app deleted my original Nik software even though I PAID for it before Google and the DxO bought it.
