These plants are toxic, but they sure make nice flowers
Beautiful. I've never heard of them 'till now
Sacred Datura, Angel's Trumpet, Jimsen Weed, and Loco Weed are also common names, depending on region.
Contains an alkaloid poison that messes with the brain's ability to regulate heartbeat (none of the indigenous tribes who use it in ceremony have shared how to metabolize the poison) so, in Caucasions, each dose increases your blood level and requires 2x the previous dose to get high again.
Livestock only eat the plant in times of extreme drought, and rarely recover from the high... they are said to be "loco-ed"
Carlos Castenada wrote a series of books about "his experiences" with a Yaqui shaman teacher. Some hippie kids read his work, wanted a "natural high," took multiple doses, and some died (then Castenada claimed he made it all up - seemingly frightened that he would be held responsible for his writing!)
