After returning two disappointing items to Amazon, I went food shopping. As I passed the bacon section, I saw "Uncured Bacon." They didn't say what kind of disease it still had, but I wasn't taking a chance. At the checkout, I saw "Energy Gum," but I resisted it. I had already drunk a cup of coffee, so I had enough energy.

I also bought a microwave oven at Lowe's - a Toshiba. I had several gift cards, so it was basically free.

Those gift cards cost you something. Maybe not directly, but through increased prices. No company actually gives things away. If they do, they don't last long.

How do you know the stores gave him gift cards? May be his lady friends that gave him the gift cards.

"Free" to him because he had no cash outlay.
Obviously not free to the person(s) who bought the gift cards.

Then again, why would anyone buy themselves gift cards?????

Uncured or Green means its the same as a pork steak or roast so uncured bacon won't have the flavor of bacon!!

These were cards given to me as gifts. Someone bought them in Lowe's and put a certain amount of credit on them. Stores make money on them because most people don't use them up. If $2.00 is left on each of a thousand cards, that's $2,000 in products the company keeps.

Bill,
I have a Frys (Krogers) supermarket and gas station here, people buy gift cards for themselves because the get addition discounts on fuel, and the people from CA, come here frequently to shop and get gift cards for fuel... A reason to buy yourself gift cards...

Interesting.
Most gift cards I see (where I live) are for face value. Not on sale?
But then, I don't go looking for discounted gift cards either.

Jerry said "These were cards given to me as gifts." So BebuLamar was right. I think Jerry's son needs to keep a closer eye on his dad. We don't know what these friends are expecting - or already getting!!!!

We have large displays of gift cards from all sorts of stores and restaurants. The cashier puts however much you want on them.

True.
If I'm giving one to someone else.
I don't buy them for me.

That would be more of a nuisance. I might have 2.75 left on an Applebee's card. Do I throw it away, or do I spend $20 more? That's where the stores come out ahead.
